The Charge d’Affaires of Israel to Nigeria, Mr. Nadav
Goren, has reaffirmed Israel’s support for a two-state solution to the
ongoing conflict between the Israelis and the Palestinians.
A statement by the Israeli Embassy in Abuja on Tuesday
night quoted Goren as saying this when the Vice Chairman, Senate
Committee on Foreign Affairs, Senator Shehu Sani, visited the embassy.
The diplomat said, “We agree on the need for a peaceful solution in the region but differ on the means to achieve it.”
In order to achieve lasting peace, Goren added, “The
Israelis and Palestinians must sit together at the negotiating table and
decide their shared future.”
The Charge d’ Affairs also stressed that the Prime
Minister of Israel, Mr. Benjamin c, would be willing to visit any
country that would facilitate direct dialogue to find a lasting solution
to the conflict.
Sani, who spoke to journalists after the visit, disclosed that he had earlier visited the Palestinian embassy.
He stated that the peace between Israel and Palestine would
have a global impact, adding that both sides must not give up even
though previous negotiations had been successful.
