It is difficult to hold back tears this morning as news breaks that
Fr. Tom Uzhunnalil, 56, was crucified in Yemen by ISIS terrorists on
Good Friday. We can only be consoled by the promises of Christ and
knowledge that he has been martyred for our faith.
Fr. Tom has allegedly been crucified by ISIS terrorists in Yemen, according to a Church source in Austria. |
Although the claim is unconfirmed, Archbishop of Vienna, Christoph Cardinal Schonborn, informed his congregation in St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna, that Fr. Tom had been crucified. The death of Fr. Tom has since been widely reported, at least in the Austrian media.

Fr.
Tom was a priest from Bangalore, India who dedicated his life to
serving the poor and disadvantaged around him. He was seized by
terrorists while working to bring comfort to the elderly in one of the
least hospitable nations on Earth.

The
fact that ISIS terrorists would take such a man, then make a spectacle
of his murder reveals that we are dealing with evil incarnate.
Yemen remains in a state of civil war between the central government, ISIS and Al Qaeda terrorists who want to turn the state into a new base of operations for their nefarious work. Several gulf states and well as the United States are assisting the government on Yemen against the terrorists, but little progress has been made.
Fr. Tom's community has requested prayers him and the sisters who died while serving on March 4.
