Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas has reportedly turned down a big-money offer from China to stay with the club next season.
According to The Sun,
the monster offer would have seen him secure a deal worth £200,000 a
week after tax, but the Spaniard wants to stay in west London ahead of
Antonio Conte’s arrival at the club this summer.
It is claimed
that after Oscar rejected the advances of Jiangsu Suning, Fabregas was
next on the club’s list as they, along with their rivals in the Chinese
Super League, are gearing up for the summer transfer market for their
next splurge.
China has become a popular destination for some
high-profile names in Europe, with the likes of Alex Teixeira, Jackson
Martinez and Ramires all making the move across to the Far East earlier
this year.
With
the financial rewards on offer, it is undoubtedly difficult for many to
ignore the interest and the chance of a fresh start outside of Europe
in a league that continues to go from strength to strength given the
influx of high level players.
However, Fabregas has reportedly
opted to buck the trend and remain in England where he will hope to
become an important part of Conte’s plans next season.
Chelsea
have endured a miserable campaign in their bid to defend their Premier
League crown this year, but with the Italian’s appointment, they will
hope to get back to competing at the top of the table next season.
