Connecting The Dots In The Ogoniland Cleanup Project Web - Victor Ezemobi

It is no longer news that at the inception of the 8th assembly, there was huge uproar over the way and manner the National Assembly leadership emerged. At the centre of that uproar, one name reverberated even louder than the uproar, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a.k.a 'Jagagban', who almost single handedly crystalized the All Progressives Congress, APC, and as such believes he has to give a nod to every appointment and nomination in the current political dispensation. The dust raised by the NASS coup d'etat is yet to settle; Senator Bukola Saraki and Hon. Dogara will give a nod to this.

It is equally no longer news that in an attempt to make that dust settle, there were minor reshuffles in the headship of the NASS oversight committees. (Digression: Is it not ironic that the word attached to a body that is supposed to make sure MDAs work has opposite meanings, 'supervise' and  'failure to notice'. As such, when it suits them, they supervise and when it does not, they fail to notice and you cannot blame them because the word that gives them their mandate has two meanings.)

Back to the matter. Of interest to me in the minor reshufflement is the Chairman Senate Committee on Environment, Senator Remi Tinubu, 'Mrs Jagagban'. Befor then, remember that there were allegations of 'how a Dino-saur has a big body and little brain, and  'how a tout will impregnate a woman that has reached menopause'. How that will happen beats me. But in 'Naija' we can do anything(after all, ship don disappear before, they don steal budget, Evans turn to Evan, even my Presido don die still dey sign memo). Anyway, all these allegations polluted the Senate ground and it appeared that the adept chairmanship changes made by Senator Saraki 'Remi-diated' the polluted Senate 'environment'. Afterall, the Senate ground is supposed to be hallowed and in truth, A Dino became a good boy and A Remi became born again. (Digression: But it appeaz Oga Dogara no do im own well. Ask the fantastically padded loverboy, Jibrin).

What is news now is that President M. Buhari, yesterday, inaugurated the Board of Trustees and Governing Council for the UNEP report inspired Ogoniland cleanup project, a project that has an initial capital injection of $1 billion. The Minister of Environment, Amina Ibrahim, is chairman of the Governing Council, while Wale Edun is the chairman of the BoT of the Trust Fund.

Now the dots. Start connecting...

1. The Ministry of Environment will be 'supervised' by Senator Remi Tinubu and sometimes, given the opposite meaning of oversight, there may be need for 'failure to notice' certain aspects of their operations. Literally, turn a blind eye.

2. Wale Edun, a confirmed 'Jagabgan' man. Are you in doubt? The man was the Commissioner for Finance in Lagos State under Asiwaju. His name was also thrown up by the 'Jagagban' camp for the job of the VP but 'somebody shouted Halleluya' and Osinbajo got the job. Asiwaju nominated him again for Finance Minister to represent Lagos, but he is not a Lagosian. They tried Ogun, but the combined weights of Governor Amosun of Ogun state and the farmer, former President Obasanjo was too heavy for Asiwaju to push aside and Mrs. Kemi got the job. But as they say, if you try and fail, try and try again. After all, PMB failed three times. Jagagban's third trial paid off and Wale Edun is now the Chairman BoT for the 'Remi-diation' of Ogoniland project.

3. Need I say more? As far as the Ogoniland cleanup project is concerned, the 'Jagagbans' have it. But I bow for the man sha, he knows how to weave a very complex web of project prosperity ranging from tax collection to property management, sits back like a spider waiting for a prey. Now remediation (how come I just realised the correct spelling. Guess my mind was polluted before now) has been added to that portfolio. But I think they have experience in cleaning. Picture Lagos before the 'Jagagban' dynasty and Lagos now they are in charge. But them sabi chop oooo. PMB, shine ya eyes ooooo.
