The latest killings by
Fulani herdsmen in Ukpabi Nimbo in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu
Stat have now shown us that we are ominously moving towards sectarian violence
that this government cannot handle. To me, it is not these killings that get me
scared, but the attitude of our president to it. It is not only irresponsible,
but I am beginning to think that someone, somewhere is goading these herdsmen
on. Or how do you explain a situation whereby herdsmen carry automatic weapons
around? And no one challenges them.
Like Citizen Dapo Rotifa wrote,
it seems the only option left to villagers wickedly left at the mercy of these
maurading herdsmen is SELF-HELP! And in any society, there is no recipe for
anarchy than when citizens resort to taking their own destinies in their own
hands. How did we get here?
We got here because these guys
have been emboldened to believe they can enter any farmland and their cattle
will graze unchallenged; leaving behind tears and sorrow for the farm owner. We
got here because we have a president who does not see this as a national
emergency. We got here because we have a president that will quickly
commiserate with Belgium and France when they suffered terror attacks but has
NEVER deemed it fit to extend that to the original people that gave him the
mandate to speak to the world on their behalf as their president. We got here
because the present DSS has shown us that an Hausa Fulani life is more
important TO IT than other Nigerians' life.
The greatest internal menace
Americans are facing is gun violence. Any time there is incidence of gun
violence, (no matter how small the number of casualties) President Obama will
leave anything he is doing and address Americans. He will reassure them and
restates his call for gun control. Bring it back home. Hundreds were killed in
Agatu, Benue State, not a word from our president. Same thing in Kogi and Oyo
State, mum is the word. Two Kaduna State officials announced that they buried
THREE HUNDRED AND FORTY FIVE bodies of Shiite Muslims in mass graves (
ostensibly killed by the army), again mum is the word from our
commander-in-chief! Same DSS that nearly shut down Anambra State, looking for
killers of FIVE Fulani herdsmen has not said anything in 24 hours after the Uzo
Uwani killings. Last week, a farmer was sentenced to death for killing a Hausa
Fulani herdsman. Yet, no Hausa Fulani has been convicted even when hundreds of
deaths have been traced to them! Last week, Shehu Garba, presidential
spokesperson, in total insensitivity, said Fulani herdsmen must be allowed to
graze their cattle ANYWHERE because of drought in the North.
The last thing Buhari needs is
sectarian violence. Not in the South-east where anti-APC sentiment runs high
for either the right or wrong reasons. He can ill-afford it. From Plateau, it
moved to Benue and now to Enugu. I may not be one of his praise-singers (who
shout in support no mater what he does), but I want peace in my fatherland. If
he fixes light and fuel, I will benefit. If there is peace every where, I move
freely in pursuit of daily bread.
But by with way he is going, I
think he is ready to strike the match that will set off a massive ethnic
conflagration! Not through his ACTIONS, but INACTIONS. I am worried. Deeply
worried...
