Boko Haram insurgents are still in control of about two local government areas in Borno State, the Minister of Defence, retired Brig-Gen Mansur  Dan-Ali, has said.

The minister’s revelation is contrary to claims by the Federal Government that no Nigerian territory is been held by the Boko Haram insurgents.

The minister, who stated this in a chat with the Voice of America, VOA, on Wednesday, however insisted that the Nigerian military has done greatly against the insurgents,  reducing their controlled territories to the current level.

According to him, the military has been able to push back the terrorists from much of the land they once occupied in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states.

Within one year, the coming of our president has changed the game. Look at what was happening before…. Now we may have maybe two local governments,” he said.

The minister further expressed optimism that the military should be able to clear the terrorists out of the Sambisa Forest within two or three months.

It would be recalled that the Senator representing Borno Central on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Senator Baba Kaka Garbai, had disputed claims by the FG that no Nigerians territory was been held by the Boko Haram insurgensts, insisting that the state was being controlled in two halfs by the state government and the insurgents.
